Microsoft Briefcase for Backing up files

Can anyone help - in using briefcase, it used to be easy to backup to an external drive, but now gives errors on certain files.  means I can't do a 'suplementary backup' but must re-backup e.g. the whole of mydocs.  Any ideas?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Briefcase has always been dodgy for me . . The Windows Backup  application will allow incremental backups.

I backup using the Files and Settings Transfer wizard . . but there is not incremental feature with that.
