TS taking A long time to start.

It used to take a few seconds to start terminal services. Now, the remote computer sits at "loading user Settings" for four and a half minutes before giving me a desktop.  Rebooting the sever locally is normal. Any ideas?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Note: RWW is normal.

In the remote connection interface, under options, try unchecking any selected devices such printers and drives. If that makes an improvement it might give you a place to start troubleshooting. Connected printers are know to cause slow disconnects, especially if the drivers have not been installed on the server. Perhaps it may be related to the slow connections, especially if you have different options chosen for RWW.

I tried changing the options - no change.

BTW: I am having problems with terminal services RWW is fine.

Yes I understood that. I assumed the basic connection was fine because RWW was OK, but thought perhaps options in RD for TS were different, and might be related to the delayed logons. It can also be related to loading enlarged profiles and group policies, but that should affect RWW as well as TS, and it doesn't seem to in your situation, so is not likely the case. Sorry no other suggestions at this time.

A few questions for you...

Do you use roaming profiles in your organization?

Do you get the same result logging in under a different user account?

Do you get the same result logging in locally?

Do you get the same result logging in from a different remote computer?

Sorry, to clarify... you are only trying to use TS for administration to the server?  Or do you have a separate TS Application server on your network?

When I asked about logging in locally, I didn't mean at the console... what about logging in from a LAN workstation to TS?

thenelson,

Okay, I totally did not pay attention to who was asking the question!  Sorry about that... I think I already knew the answers to those question!

Has this been happening since the DNS was rebuilt?  Because it sounds like a name resolution time-out error.

I should have said, Hi Jeff!"  or something like that.  Pardon my uncouthness (is that a word?).

I believe the problem started when I mistakenly followed the advice of a MS engineer and used the My Documents redirection wizard.  It screwed up a lot more then just the TS login.  After I set everything back the way it was, the TS login returned to functioning fine.

Thank's guys for your input.
