Backup tapes

Do they need to be formatted or is it just a matter of buying the tape, placing it in and it runs the job.
This is for the tape drive: works ultirum 460, which is HP and uses 400GB HP back up tapes.

only backup tape i am aware of that need formatting and DDS and thats just with a windows header if using ntbackup...

Hi GanaSonaDa,

No Ultrium tapes do not need formatting.  If you insert the tape and either manually start a backup job or schedule one to run it will.
