MS SQL - How to troublshoot and unlock objects that are locked

I am new into SQL Databases and I want to know if you can explain to me hot to troubleshoot and lock objects that are locked within my database can I do this on Enterprise Manager I know that it is possible to write a SQL statement which can do this but you obviously need to know where the problems lie first. Please help me.

    Database objects are unlocked once your session is disconnected.

    Can you perhaps explaint to me how I can check what and where the data is that is being locked and by who?.
