A place to practice walking mibs

I start a job verifying snmp is sent from the agent to the server quite soon.

Reading the snmp book is making me more confused with the waterfall of information.

If I could find a place to walks some mibs it and work with some traps that would help out a lot.   I have several computers at home if that and some software will help.

Basicly I am  slamming down some snmp experiance.

If you're running strictly Windows boxes, you could download the 30-day trial of SolarWinds Engineer's Edition, which has some SNMP tools that support Cisco & other MIBs:
  http://www.solarwinds.net/Tools/Engineer/index.htm

If you've got a Unix/Linux box, you can try out the "snmpwalk" tool that's included in the "Net-SNMP" package:
  Info on "snmpwalk":
http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net/docs/man/snmpwalk.html
Usually you need to install Net-SNMP yourself.

Sure, might as well use the Cisco router to test.  To enable gathering SNMP on most Cisco routers, run this in config mode:
  snmp-server community public ro

Further info on SNMP on Cisco routers (IOS version 12.2):
