Impact of removing forest from GPMC

I have a Windows 2003 SBS SP1 server that was migrated awhile ago. We are experiencing issues trying to use the GPMC. It is trying to connect to the generic SBS domain that the server was originally in. That domain no longer exists and I cannot connect to the server as a domain controller. The new domain shows up but I can't access the GPOs. What is the impact of deleting the forest and connecting to it again?

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

That is what I mean thanks. I removed the forest but it seems to still be looking for the old domain name even after I try to add the forest back. Any hints?

remove the GPMC and make sure you can access the policies manually   if so then you can install the GPMC again and see how you go

Thanks Mate.
The errors seemed to still be there after I tried to access the GPO from the DSA.msc. But I was able to go further. I removed the old GPO links then reinstalled GPMC. It's seems good now just have to restore the default GPOs now.
