Multiple Exchange Server enviornment

Hi,
I am currently installing a second exchange server in a domain. The MX records at the ISP they are going to put both the servers. Lets say server 1 and server 2. What i would like to know is what happens when the mail comes to server 1 for a user whose mailbox is in server 2. Will server 1 boucnce it back to the sender saying no email address exists or does it route to the server where the mailbox exists?

Do I need to configure any connectors between the servers? I currently want both the servers to speak to the ISP directly.

Thanks and Regards

Hi,

1. if the exchange servers are in the same domain, they share the same active directory. All messages coming through server1 for mailboxes on server2 will be redirected to server2 without any modifcations.

2. You do not need a connector between the two servers.

Hi Draak,
And I am assuming the same applies when the mail is coming to server2 and the mailbox is in server1 it would be redirected without any problems?

Thanks

Indeed, you assume correctly.

We have 2 exchange Server with the sole purpose for sending /receiving all smtp messages in and out our exchange. The messages are transferred there to our mailbox servers. No special configuration was necessary to establish this.
