I want to pass totalised Data from thre subreports to the main report

this is one

Shared NumberVar RTot := SUM({I_h.D_Tot})

But each time I get a "The results of the selection must be Boolean"

I need to pass totals

I have picked many fields but they all have the same response

    Sounds like you are doing this in a selection rule not a formula field.

    I want to pass the Total from a Subreport footer SUM

    You need to create a new formula and use this code there.  In the Field Explorer click on Formula then click the New button.

    There's nothing wrong with the formula you've written, but as Pete said you have it in the wrong place.

    you were dead right   I was creating in totally the wrong place...

    A simple answer but cured a hours worth of grief..
