remote query of Indexing Service

I have a Visual Basic application which needs to search through a remote IIS machine's indexing service catalog. I can find references to the query language OK. I can find references to the remote connection too:

Calalog = "query://[hostname]/[catalog]"

but am having trouble with getting a successful connection remotely.

Error message is "there is no catalog".
Some debug info:
I can connect to the local machine's index server get search the local catalog.

I can run the catalog query from IIS on the remote machine, so it's functional.

Two thoughts come to mind:
1. Is there a security setting on Windows Server 2003 that forbids a remote query of this nature?
2. Does the catalog get queried via a UDP or TCP port other than port 80, therefore requiring a firewall adjustment ?

try opening these ports in your firewall and try again
UDP ports 137 and 138 and TCP ports 139 and 445

Thx, and wow, that would introduce quite a security risk. I'm going to use a query to a web page and parse the results instead. Oh well.
indexing service was allways a risk in the case of DMZ servers :-)
