How to view Yahoo mail in Outlook Express

I have an on-line e-mail with Yahoo and another e-mail account with my ISP. I use Outlook Express to view mail from my ISP’s mail server. How do I set-up Outlook Express so that I can also view my Yahoo mail there as well?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Greetings, dlwulfe !

If you are using the free email service from, you cannot officailly get POP3 access and view with Outlook Express.  There are some workarounds.

You can open a Yahoo account with Yahoo Canada (or most Yahoo regional services), and get free POP3 access.

With, you can use a program like Freepops to act as a gateway between Yahoo webmail interface and Outlook Express.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the info. I went to, click the auto-installer link for windows to download the program but I keep getting " Page Can't be found".  I will attempt again tomorrow and if able to get and install the program will award points.
Thanks for the fast response. I actually should have included Hot Mail in my question as well. Is it handled the same way?
Yes, Hotmail is handled the same way.

Once you download the program and have it running in System Tray, important settings in Outlook Express account are

Login Name:
Server: localhost
POP3 Port: 2000

Freepops does not provide SMTP access, so you will need to use your ISP SMTP server.
