JSP calls external client server application such as GIS, legacy client-server application?

Can we build a jsp page which is able to invoke the client-server application and GIS system.

The client-server application is installed and accessed via network?

The web page is run as a intranet applicaiton..

If anyone who has done this before please give me some idea and work process. thanks
