"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes, we do this frequently via login script. Let's say the shortcut is called "shortcut.lnk" and you want it on their desktop.

1) Copy SHORTCUT.LNK to the \Netlogon folder on the server
2) Create a login script, name it LOGIN.BAT.
3a) You will need those quotes

The above trick places the shortcut on the desktop for all users, if you substitute %USERPROFILE% for %ALLUSERSPROFILE% it will copy only for the user logging on.

Personally I have an \Install folder on my server, and under that I have 2 folders: \copy2desktop and \copy2start and I put items in there for their desktop or start menu as required. In fact the above method allows you to place items in users \STARTUP folder if you had something you wanted their PC to run every time they logged in.
