how do I deploy vb.net windows application

I am trying to deploy and application that I developed in VB.net.  I created to setup file however when I try installing it on other computers I get the error"
"An error occurred downloading a required file.  You may try downloading the file or cancel setup."

In the details it  says "An error occured downloading the following resource:  http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=27283"

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What version of .Net are you using (1.1 or 2.0)? Make sure the computers you install on have the right version of .NET

Have you tried Click Once deployment?
The way this works is (Assuming that you have the machines in a LAN or your deployment machine has a public IP)
1. Build your solution
2. Publish your solution (you will be prompted to select the virtual directory such as http://localhost/myApp) Make sure you have IIS installed and running -
3. Get the ip of the machine you deploy on and the folder from step2
4. Go to you other machines (goto to the webpage http://[ip of the deployment machine]/myApp/publish.htm)

I have done this several times and the users have been pleased with the result - since it checks for updates everytime the application starts up. Also, when you publish, VS automatically increments the build numbers.

I think you might need for them to update their computers to employ the net framework.  You can download the dotnetfx.exe here.  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3-f589-4842-8157-034d1e7cf3a3&displaylang=en  Once they install it, then I'm sure you'll probably be able to run your program.

I am actually using .net 2005 and the application I am developing is a standalone windows application.

The computer I am installing it to might have a windows 2000 or XP os.

you have to have them run it.  It will update their computer so they can run your program.  This is one of the drawbacks with coding in VB.NET, an added framework utility needs to be installed on user machines in order to run the .NET coded programs.
