Will an Acer n35 work with the Sandisk Wifi / 256 Mb Combo SDIO card?

Hi guys. Really simple question here that i hope someone might help with. I have an Acer n35 Pocket PC running Pocket Windows 2003. I have also bought a Sandisk wifi / 256 Mb SDIO combo card off ebay (you can't buy them new anymore). Have downloaded the drivers from Sandisk website and installed everything fine. Hardware is acknowledged, and wireless app runs on Acer PPC. However, it cannot and will not see any wireless networks. Have run other third party apps on it and it's the same problem; just scans and scans but doesn't find the two wireless networks in my house.

I did a bit of reasearch on the net before buying it, and found that some people could get these two devices to work together, and other couldn't. I took a gamble. The question now is have I bought a faulty unit or is there a genuine incompatibility? If anyone out there has tried this combonation and had similar problems, or indeed some success, I'd be very grateful if you could reply back.

Many thanks,

Hows your wireless settings?
Are you broadcasting the ssid in the 2 networks?
Did you hard reset (to clear the cache) and then install to test the card?

Wireless settings are fine, and 2 wireless networks are defintely broadcasting SSIDs (I have a house full of wireless stuff). There has been an occurence since leaving my posting though, in so much as my N35 is now broken. I did indeed do a hard reset (to try and install the implementation of Pocket Windows 2003 SE that Acer gave me links for), but on the second attempt (the first failed) the hard reset switch decided to break! It is a tiny little switch with about a 1/3 millimetre plastic connection, and it's no wonder the thing just snapped being switched - a big design fault.

I'm now taking this up with Acer, and will post an entry back here once I have a new n35 (I'm in warranty).

Best wishes,

If you could keep it open for a bit longer that would be great; am awaiting my repaired unit from Acer before leaving a response. This should be with me in the next 5 - 10 working days. Thanks.

Acer still have my PDA I'm afraid, so no news. I promise to add a link to this page as soon as it returns and I can test though!

Ok; have finally got back the PDA. The hard reset switch it fixed, but Acer haven't updated the software on the PDA to Pocket Windows 2003 Second Edition as I requested. Tried this myself again, but it still won't work. Have tried various different SD cards to achieve the update, but nothing works. Obviously, I have also tried the Sandisk Wif-Fi software again, and still no joy.

Does anyone have any experience on updating the ROM file on an Acer n35? It just crashes anytime I try (starts the orange update bar, then ceases after about 10% of the update). Without the update, the card certainly seems to not work, so if no one can shed any light on this I guess it is question closure time :(

OK, no one here knows about updating the ROM on the n35. Acer have been no help either, so it looks like either the sandisk wifi/256 card I have is either faulty, or that it is incompatible with the n35 (at least the one running my current ROM version). I think the latter is most likely.

Could someone close up this question for me, but leave it up here, as someone else with the same frustration will probably hit on this at some point. For the person who does, the n35 and sandisk 256+Wifi card don't look a good matched bet ...... :(

Thanks,

I finally managed to negotiate with Acer and get them to update the software for me, on the basis that the unit might be at fault as it wouldn't update for me. I now have it returned with the latest ROM update on the unit, but alas the card still won't work with the Acer n35. My conclusion? - don't buy an n35 and a Sandisk Wifi+256 Mb SD combo card, and expect them to work together.

I hope this helps stop someone else wasting days of time like I did!
