Software tools for communication between CE device and desktop

Does anyone know of software tools that can be integrated into a vb.net 2005 desktop app that allows me to control file transfers to and from my mobile device?

There is a product at pda-tec.com that has the right idea; it offers controls that can be integrated into your vb program that let you send files to the mobile device, and receive files, and initiate a program on the mobile device, etc.  But being a 'set of active x controls', as they say on their website, I assume means that they are designed for older vb6 code.

I have quite a few text files I need to move back and forth at different times, from different folders, etc., so I need a lot more control than activesync's sync rules are offering.  What software, or tools, will give me the flexibility I need?  TIA
