Display driver for rage xl PCI windows 2003

Hi,

Please, this is my problem:

Once windows update were downloaded on my windows 2003 server, the display became distorted.
I didn't find any suitable driver. The original one was from ATI technologies, rage xl PCI.

Thank you

Have you tried rolling back the driver to a previous version?  You could also change it to the Original base VGA driver that is installed when you first load the server OS, the try manually installing a newer driver..

I would agree. A number of video drivers do not perform well after upgrades due to files being in-use or nor replaced correctly. Uninstalling the current driver and returning back to standard vga driver will clear the settings out. Once done (and rebooted), install the new driver cleanly.

I tried rolling back. I also tried uninstalling the driver and rebooted so that the standard driver be used, but nothing changed in the dispaly. Now i am using the standard driver. And even if i wanted to reinstall ATI's driver, I didn't find the one for windows 2003.

Yep, does not look like ATI has written drivers specifically for 2003..  you might try an XP driver though..  Or swap out the video card for something that does support 2003..

from a video card perspective 2003 uses XP drivers.  In many cases you will be happier with Microsoft instead of the manufacturers.

i used driver genius and backed up the display driver on another server with same hardware. Then i used the forced install and manually chose the driver's file from the backedup folder. Nothing changed although everything seems right in device manager: the same properties and files as in the first server.

I didn't try to install xp's driver yet, but i really began to think it might be another problem since i restored the driver from this other server. I will try it in about an hour.

Thank you,
Line

I uninstalled the ATI driver and rebooted to install xp's version. But i realized that nothing has changed, as if i never uninstalled the previous driver. Should it have taken the standard default driver?

Should it have taken the standard default driver?<<  That is my recommendation..

You know what: I already did many uninstalls, and i already tried using the standard VGA, IT DIDNT work. I'm just adding something: although i uninstalled, it was not uninstalled since when i rebooted it showed the same driver.
The standard VGA didn't work when i tried to set it manually.
I wanted to try another suggestion: installing the xp driver, so i uninstalled then rebooted to install the xp driver on a clean configuration. Don't you want me to install the new driver on a clean configuration.

Let me clear the situation:

When i uninstall the driver and reboot, i find the ATI driver that i uninstalled.
To try whether the standard VGA works, I set it manually. It didn't work.

Uninstalling doesn't seem to clear the configuration on reboot.

Thank you,

I rebooted
I installed ATI's xp driver.
I rebooted

is it a hardware problem?

Well, I don't use ATI cards in my servers, so I cannot test what you are experiencing, but you might try downloading and installing the ATI Multimedia Center 7.2 - English, and try it again...

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293

If you have already installed this, I might note the comment on the above page, the operative word being 'should':

This software should also function with products
based on the RAGE PRO and RAGE XL chipset.

Personally, I might suggest you go out and purchase an Nvidia card...  this is what I use in my servers...

Yes, I agree...  ATI has some good stuff, but I don't buy them..  :)
