VB.NET and SQL Server

Hi,

Our development environment is VB.NET and backend as SQL Server 2000 on XP/2000.

Our client is running XP with SQL 2000 Client Tool but their SQL Server is 2005.
Where  our client can successfully connect to SQL Server 2005 using SQL 2000 client tool, I am unable to do so in our dev environment. Why? I also tried installed MDAC 2.8.

Any reasons why I cannot connect?

Regards,
Vilas

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are you getting any exceptions?  What indications are you getting that it is not working?

First I tried to register the SQL Server 2005 server on my machine with is running SQL 2000. It gives general network error. But I can access that server and read/write files.

Ok .. alternately, if my PC has SQL Server 2000, what all I need to do to access SQL Server 2005?

I am not an SQL Server DBA, so you might want to ask this question in the SQL Server area:
