best secure IT document repository

What is the best software for storing IT documentation such as Viso files, config files , etc in a secure manner. a plus would be something that can also have some sort of digital signature so that someone could not malicously make a change to the documentation.

thank you for feedback.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I still use the MS Sourcesafe. Allows version control as well; not freeware but does the job.
