Vitual CTRL key - SetKeyboardState?

Can I use the user32 function SetKeyboardState to virtually enable the CTRL key?  I'm trying to code a button that when clicked will programatically "hold down" the CTRL key until the button is clicked again.

Any other suggestions?

You can use the keybd_event() API:

Private Declare Sub keybd_event Lib "user32.dll" (ByVal bVk As Byte, ByVal bScan As Byte, ByVal dwFlags As Integer, ByVal dwExtraInfo As Integer)
Private Declare Function MapVirtualKey Lib "user32" Alias "MapVirtualKeyA" (ByVal wCode As Integer, ByVal wMapType As Integer) As Integer

Private Sub KeyDown(ByVal key As Byte)
        keybd_event(key, MapVirtualKey(key, 0), 0, 0) ' Down
    End Sub

Private Sub KeyUp(ByVal key As Byte)
        keybd_event(key, MapVirtualKey(key, 0), 2, 0) ' Up
    End Sub

Examples:

    KeyDown(Keys.ControlKey)
    KeyUp(Keys.ControlKey)
