When new email arrives in Outlook (2002) a dialogue box pops up. It says something like "New mail has arrived, would you like to read it now?" Clicking yes does not bring up the new message as I expected it to. Any ideas experts?

Greetings, allaboutmike !

Toggle the email notification option

1.    On the Tools menu, click Options.
2.    On the Preferences tab, click E-mail Options and click to un-select the "Display a notification message when new mail arrives" check box, and click OK and OK.
3.    Go back to Tools > Options > Email Options and select "Dispaly a notification...", and click OK and OK.

Now test to see if you can click Yes and view the new message.

Best wishes!

Sorry Experts, I was trapped out of town for a few days by cyclone related flooding. I will get back to you on this when I next visit this machine (it's not mine) on Wednesday. Thanks for your input so far.

War1, finally got back to see this machine. Your suggestion has made no difference I'm afraid.

allaboutmike,

1. Reset the Outlook toolbar template. With Outlook close, do a search for and rename outcmd.dat file. Restart Outlook and a fresh outcmd.dat file will be recreated.

2. Register an important Outlook file. Go to Start > Run and type regsvr32 OLE32.DLL

3. Disable Outlook Addins.  Go to Tools > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Addin Manager or COMM/Addins and disable the addins.

4. Start Outlook in Safe Mode.  Go to Start > Run and type

"c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Outlook.exe" /safe

Your path to Outlook.exe may be a little different.

5. Create a new Outlook profile.

6. Repair Outlook. With Outlook open, go to Help > Detect and Repair.

7. If no joy, reinstall Outlook.  Go to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Install/Uninstall.  A menu will pop allowing you to choose repair or reinstall.

Just went back and reread your previous post and realised I was only looking at the bottom two lines of suggestions (so tired, must catch up on sleep) I will obviously also try the other methods you have put in.
Thanks agsain war1

Mike,

I tried to my troubleshooting steps so that the less intrusive ones are tried first. A couple of minor problems have been repaired with Detect and Repair, especially if problem is related to other Office programs.
