LPR problem

Hello everyone,

I'm having some troubles wit a user in our company. I need to install an OCE printer, and in order to do that I need to install "other network file and print services" (the printer needs to be install through a LPR port). Now when I try that, I'm getting the following error:

an error occured which prevented the print services for Unix components from being installed or removed.

I searched on the net but haven't found something useful (yet). Who encountered this problem already?

Thanx,

You don't need to install that for Windows 2000 at least, is that what you are using?  The Print services for unix item is for unix or other LPR machines to be able to access your shared Windows printers.

Just install a new printer, local printer, and you should have the option for Standard TCPIP port.  That will do LPR

Sorry, but I need LPR. The guys from OCE installed a pc with OS2 as print server. That's out of my control.

Confused.  What OS needs to print from/to where.

Standard TCPIP port is LPR and installed by default on 2000 and XP.  NT4 needs it installing afai remember and Win9x needs third party LPR drivers of course

OK, I tried it and it worked. Great! Thanx alot. The guy from Oce, told me that we needed to install first the '"other network file and print services". Then install the printer through a local port and select the lpr port. But your way is much faster and easier. Thanx.

No problem, thanks for the points.

I guess he knew the NT way of doing it... I won't ask what on earth a new OS/2 system is going in for mind!
