IBM x206 NOS Partitioning error

Hi,
We are trying to reinstall the SBS 2003 on this server IBM x206. When running the setup and installation CD version 7.4 of IBM, it comes to a part of NOS partitioning and we got this error msg "Please install a disk that can do a partioning of 5000MB". We have called IBM and they seem at a loss too how to solve this problem.
Previously, to test out the hard drive is working, we install linux on this system. would that cause this error msg?
Appreciate for help, this is real mind bobbling. Thx so much

some more info..thx

What happened was previously we have an earlier error message "Setup did not detect any hard disk" when we are using setup and installation ver 7.2, so IBM ask us to download the latest version setup guide CD ver 7.4 which would give us the option to choose SBS 2003 as previous ver 7.2 doesn't have this option. So when we boot up from the IBM setup guide CD ver 7.4, we are able to see the option of selecting SBS 2003 OS for installation. however, it comes to this part of NOS partitioning that gives the error "Pls install a disk that can do a partition of 5000MB".
IBM says they are muffled by this error msg as they have not encountered this before.

We did try to bypass the setup and installation CD ver 7.4 and just straight away use the SBS 2003 disk1..but it would give the error "setup did not detect any hard disk"....even though we have pressed F6 and install the SCSI drivers (as guided to the site to download the drivers by IBM...)...so we are really puzzled by all these as the hard drive is ok (bec can install linux)...

What size are the disks on your system?  Do you still have another Operating System installed on it?

You should download the most current bios and drivers:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-54951

Then, disable the Auto-Server Restart before installing SBS.

Hi Jeff,
now another weird thing... together with my boss, we go through the same procedure again and this time round, it doesn't give the partition error message. somehow, we manage to install the sbs2003. however, i notice that upon startup after updates, it is taking about half hr or more before log in. does it indicate some symptoms?

thx

It would seem so... your question has been answered.  There will always be more questions that arise from any major project.  Unless it's related to the original question (as opposed to related to the project in general) then you should post it separately.

there's not an option for me to close the qn. i would like to test out your suggested solns but then unable to now. if i accept one of the comments as answer, that would be misleading to other people who reference it later, right?

Jeffrey Kane - TechSoEasyPrincipal ConsultantCommented:
Are you saying that you didn't download the most recent drivers per my suggestion before attempting to reinstall?
