Cannot empty Deleted Items folder

Hi there, and thanks for reading.  I have a user that cannot empty his deleted items folder.  When he tries to do so, he gets an error message that tells him "Outlook has not finished synchronizing local changes made to items in this folder.  You cannaot delete this folder until the synchronization with the server is complete."  He can wait 5 minutes, or 5 hours.  Never "finishes".  It also doesn't matter if he wants to delete 1 item or empty the whole folder.  Still cannot do it.  He is running Outlook 2003, and we are using Exchange 2003 for our server.  I'm fairly certain he's in cached mode.

Thanks for any help on this matter.

And that's exactly what it was here too.  He deleted the .ost file, and let Outlook recreate it - and problem solved.
