Hi hack-4-good,

im not sure if you can do it with SBS i assume you can

right click my computer and select manage on a client - right click and select connect to another computer - from there you can choose the server - scroll down to services and if your user has enough priviliges it should be able to restart the service

as i said i dont know if this will work with SBS

worked with this a bit trying many logical ways...  but its a remote server with no accessible workstations so the my computer > manage wont work... probably wouldnt from local either, if netlogon isnt running, i assume i cant be authenticated thru the network.

local physical access to the console worked, after a huge long delay after the password was entered.

seems that something disabled the NTLM security helper service, and that caused netlogon to not load.  not really sure what caused the ntlm service to become disabled... ugh.

had previously set up a backdoor via ultravnc which allowed me to get in from remote, check the logs, determine the cause, and start both services... all seems ok for now...

i'll leave this question open for a day or two to see if there might be any more usefull comments...  but thanks for the thoughts so far.
