Error loading ColdFusion, just installed.

Just installed CF on  a new computer for a development environment.

When I try to open the CF Admin page i get a 404. Further exploration reveals errors in the system log.

Here is what the error log says:

04/20 11:47:10 user JSPServlet: init
04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet
04/20 11:47:11 error Could not pre-load servlet: CFMxmlServlet
04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet
04/20 11:47:11 error Could not pre-load servlet: ColdFusionStartUpServlet
04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet
04/20 11:47:11 error Could not pre-load servlet: CfmServlet
04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet
04/20 11:47:11 error Could not pre-load servlet: CFSwfServlet
04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet
04/20 11:47:11 error Could not pre-load servlet: CFCServlet
04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet

04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet
04/20 11:47:11 error Could not pre-load servlet: CFFormGateway
04/20 11:47:11 info coldfusion.bootstrap.BootstrapServlet
04/20 11:47:11 error Could not pre-load servlet: CFInternalServlet

How can I get the server running?

Thanks,

Have you checked the services to make sure all the CF parts are started or have you re-booted after install?

It sounds like some part of the CF server is not yet started

I am pretty sure that is the problem, but what all parts should I be looking for? How many services? What are their names? etc.

NEW Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 1.5

With Office 365, it’s your data and your responsibility to protect it. NEW Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 eliminates the risk of losing access to your Office 365 data.

A little more information has emerged. It turns out the person I asked to install CF in my absense yesterday tried to install the 7.01 upgrade without CF being installed. He got all the way to the stage asking where CF was installed before he cancelled it. Nothing should have been installed before this, but it was after it said it must shut down services. I don't think this should have affected the installation, but I don't know.

To answer 73Spyder: Yes that service is running. Also the Search server is running.

This is a very frustrating problem. I am also frusterated I didn't perform the install myself. Too bad I had to go home sick yesterday.

ouch.  At this point I think the best bet would be to start over from scratch.  Do the uninstall.  Run cc cleaner   http://www.ccleaner.com/  and then do the install the right way.

I think you will find that this will take less time that continuing to de-bug this issue.  Also if the develpment server is built differently than production, then it is not a good match for your final production environment.  An issue because of this may never surface but you never know.

Okay, still not working. I did as you (73Spyder) suggested (uninstall and CCleaner) and it has made SOME progress. But we're not there yet. It seems to be installing the CFIDE directory under the root directory, not the web directory. I copied it to the web directory and now the server is running and i can load html files, but not CFM files. I get a regular 404. This is no bueno. I am now installing the 7.01 package from the website rather than the 7.0 one from the Dreamweaver CD I have.

Now the error log says this:

After reinstalling it multiple times it finally just worked.

The 3rd to last time we installed as "Trial version" and no luck.

The last time we tried installing as the "Developer Edition" and no luck.

The final time we did "Trial version" again and, obviously, it worked.

So what else did we do diferently each time? Absolutely nothing.

There was one other symptom: Every time we installed it and it failed, It had a non-fatal error in the install log saying that it could not delete a temporary file (a zip file). But the file was not always the same name. The last time we instlled it this error did not occur.

How can I divide out the points since there was no real solution other than persistance?
