Crystal Reports 5.0

Good Afternoon,

I'm desperate for a copy of Crystal Reports 5.0.  We need to edit a report in a third party app (they have not updated support for the new versions of Crystal...)  We own a copy of 8.5 Dev, but it is incompatible with their report engine.  The vendor will create the report for us, but they are running a HUGE lag time and I need the edits sooner.

I contacted Business Objects (current owner of Crystal Reports) and was told that anything before 7 would not be available from them.  I'm in a major bind.

Do any of the crystal products downgrade to 5.0?  Thoughts?

thanks,
Michael

Version 5.0 might be compatible with version 7.  You might be able to download a trial version of the latest CR.  In which, if back in 5.0, the report extention ended in rpt.  You may find luck in opening it up.  If this does work for you, the next problem that you will run into is the difference in how the report is saved.  Clearly, there are more dll's and function in later version that will be associated with the report once you save it and may not operate correctly in the environment that is currently running 5.0.

Yeah that is what I was thinking. It will no be backwards compatible even if you get it to open and corrected in a more recent version of CR (newer than 7.0).  Think you might be stuck outside of the suggestion listed above, and that is going to be hard pressed to find just because of the sheer age of 5.0.

Sorry - we opted out for not purchasing the software on ebay which apparently would have been our only choice.  I was really hoping for a technical solution and/or work around.  oh well.
