Capturing Video from proprietary software

I have some video on a DVD made for computer viewing that has its own proprietary software to run.  I need to take segments from each DVD and place them all together on one VHS or another DVD.

Aside from just placing a camera in front of my monitor, does anyone have any ideas as to what or how I can capture this video on my pc while it is playing in its own proprietary software?

Thanks

with VirtualDubMod at http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=65889 you can edit DVDs directly working on mpeg2, preserving quality.
you can quickly cut, subtitle, etc... using its included or external filters.
you take care an important thing: enter Video tab and set: direct stream copy
