I saw a squirrel climbing up a cylindrical post spirally, making the circuit in 4 feet.
Supposing the top of the post is 16 feet high and 3 feet in circumference ,how many feet does it travel to the top?

    Accepted Solution

If it goes 4 feet up when it goes 3 feet around, then it travels sqrt(4*4+3*3)=5 feet
to go 16 feet up, it would then travel 5*16/4 = 20 feet.
(assuming that's what you mean by travel and spirally)
