Slow server performance at the same time each day

Morning all,

We have a 2003 file print server that slows down at around 5.30 each evening. I checked the scheduled tasks, and there's none scheduled for this time. Any ideas?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try running perfmon and adding in disk, memory and processor utilisation counters and see if anything crops up.

Does the server do anything else? Global catalogue server? DC?

Do you have a lot of people synchronising offline files back to the server when the log off and go home?

It could be a bunch of things but perfmon should help pin down what is doing it.

Above will help find it of course but my bet would be on Antivirus scan running at this time on the server, or maybe even a client PC scanning all drives including network ones?

Again perfmon can tell you all this too but for a simple quick check have you looked at task manager at the time on the server to see what is casuing slowness -- does CPU utilisation go hgh for one process?
