I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. hi there

well the enterprise portal when compared to a website is not much different but the purpose of this enterprise portal is to cater to the needs and requests of the clients who have data to update or manipulate data which is available in the database.
and unlike a website which can be authentication based. this portal is purely authentication based and u can see only the initial page but if u want to do any activitiy inside it u need to have the user id and password and u will provided only access the modules u have been assigned.

and generally this enterprise portal is reachable over the intranet or only through a VPN connection. The enterprise portal is not put on the internet. but only on intranet.

wish to address any more of ur questions

Hello Sudhir,

The EP can also be put on the internet but then the profile for all of its users is only limited to certain transactions. The best example can be a shopping portal where you allow your users to shop on the site usint a basket & finally paying for it. In this case all the purchase request, invoice, bill etc. will be directly made in SAP datatbsae through their respective BAPI calls. So this reduces a company's IT infrastructure, here only one ERP and database can be used to take care of everything instead of using 2.

I hope it resolves your query.

Thanks
