I am trying to find out if it is possible to programmatically change what the read receipt looks like. For instance, can I change the subject or the body of a read receipt before it gets sent out.

Hi IBTLehman,

There is no provision for this in Outlook.  I suppose it might be possible to come up with a workaround.  Perhaps by intercepting messages before the receipt is sent and sending one of your own.

Thas sounds like a possibility. Do you have a code sample to accomplish that ?

Sorry, after researching this it doesn't appear that there's any way to be able to do this.  The reports are generated automatically by the transport provider before they can be seen by code.  The return message is a special object type that is generated by the system (i.e. no mechanism for a programmer to create them).  You could turn receipt processing off altogether and create a mechanism to check for receipt requests and send a message back if one was requested.  But what you sent back wouldn't be a proper receipt and would not be processed at the other end as a receipt.  It'd see the message as just another email.
