Binary file access

I am studying for a BS in IT, and need to find information on defining binary file access. Anyone have any suggestions? (I don't want te answer, just suggestions on where I can find the information I need. Thank you in advance for any help offered!)

Text file is variable length record oriented file, where reading process records for you (stripping line ends).
Binary file is just a stream of raw bytes without any processing.

Hi,

It's not clear to me about what system your question is ... if you're doing your BS in the "Microsoft World" you might find this article interesting: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;151335 ... otherwise you'd might find this one helpfull: http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/php/2002/12/12/php_foundations.html

Best regards,
