how many monkeys would it take to eat 48 bananas in 48 minutes

Although it seems to be very simple in this case, it won't be the same everytime.

So, you must consider this:

More the monkeys, more the bananas they can eat in same time.

More the bananas, more the time required.

Total "work" to be done = 8 bananas
Rate of "work" = 8 bananas/(8 monkeys * 8 minutes) = 1/8

So, the total work required to be done = 48 bananas.
Since rate of doing work is the same, 48/(x * 48) = 1/8
