Windows XP Pro Sound card driver for Sony Vaio VGN FE-11S

I bought a sony VGN FE-11S which came with Windows Media center edition. Unfortunately that edition would not work with my office environment (windows Domains) so I reinstalled the notebook with Windows XP Pro.

After the reinstall the Sound is not working. Contacting sony gives the standard answer that they will not support any environment except the original installed OS!

Any body have any ideas where to get the sound card drivers for this notebook?

Thanks

Did you create the Recovery Media CD before you started?
http://esupport.sony.com/EN/osmig/xpclean.html

If not, then you have to request a CD from Sony Vaio..

I have the recovery CD from Sony but that is only for the Windows MCE.

I have changed the OS to XP Pro now so that recovery CD is not much use.

Or am I missing something here?

you need to install the chipset drivers, and sound card drivers, maybe others too - check in device manager for items with errors. You can identify your hardware with Everest :  http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads9.html
Then look for drivers on the manufacturers page, or post here
If all fails, you can install the media center soft, and collect all drivers, then install XP

you can also go to driver magic, they claim to find all drivers :   http://www.drivermagic.com/p/nph-home.php

have you tryed sonys support site i tryed to get to the downloads but it requires the serial from the system, even if they only offer the media center drivers those will work on xp pro, the other drivers you also need are the chipset and video.

jamietoner may have the solution with the sony site. Use your serial # to find the specs for the laptop. It just may give the sound device info in there.
If not,You may have to reinstall windows MCE to find out what sound device you have in there, in order to cross-reference it against XP drivers. I don't think EVEREST can find it unless its installed properly.

Its always a good idea to open all [+] signs in device manager and print out  the device manager components when changing Operating systems, just in case you run into this very problem. At least then you have an idea what components are in there.
