Does anyone know a formula for calculating a geometric mean in visual basic or SQL?

i'm actually trying to calc geometric mean for a return series (with some negative numbers) and it's giving me an error - the argument to 'log' must be positive.

then incase of -ve value use the absolute value and then later on multipy the value with -1.
