Can anyone please help me compare the advantages/disadvantages of using a Cisco ASA 5520 with a Linux machine running IPtables?

The scenario is a critical production data center and we need to make a quick objective decision.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Depends on how experienced you are with you linux commands. What are you trying to accomplish here with what type of resources? If you are experienced and want to learn IPtables go for it, it will save you some $$$. If you want the reliability and more functionality go with cisco, checkpoint, juniper or any other fw vendor.
