Active X component can't create object : 'EXCEL.APPLICATION' - VERY URGENT!!!!!!!!!

hi experts
well this problem of mine is linked to my previous question:

       http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/Web_Languages/ASP/Q_21804822.html

the code that i posted at the end of the above link worked perfectly until last week. then my PC crashed (cursed worm...it's still in here!). i erased and re-formatted my harddrive, and re-installed my IIS (using windows XP pro), and on running the script from the link above i got this error:

Microsoft Office Excel (0x800A03EC)
'psdss.xls' is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, then give the workbook a new name in the Save As dialog box.
/PSDSS/entPri_files/genPri.asp, line 846

where line 846 reads:

       objWorkBook.Save
NB: the excel file it's reading is a shared workbook, it has an ODBC link....and it was working before my pc crashed.

then i migrated my scripts the the server in my lab, the exact same script, not a hair moved...and i got this error:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01ad'
ActiveX component can't create object:  'EXCEL.APPLICATION'
/200211300/wwwroot/genPri.asp, line 52

where line 52 reads:

set objExcel = CreateObject (" 'EXCEL.APPLICATION'")

now i need suggestions, or tell me where i'm going wrong...dont have the time to build another system, just need to know how i can correct these faults...asap....im presenting my system this friday!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks!

you need to have write/modify/full control permissions available, any one or possible combination of psdss.xls (do this via NTFS-MyCOMPUTER)

the 2nd part is that you don't have the correct services to enable the Excel object.

hi thanks for being so fast....now please may you be more elaborate...how exactly will i enable rights to my PC...how do i do it using NTFS-MyComputer?

>the 2nd part is that you don't have the correct services to enable the Excel object.
exactly what services do i need?

Irwin SantosComputer Integration SpecialistCommented:
We'll break this into 2 parts.. and deal with it one at a time..

You installed IIS..look at web service extensions, is .ASP ALLOWED?
also, the location of the file "genPri.asp"' parent folder

"/PSDSS/entPri_files/".. right click while viewing this in My Computer OR Windows Explorer, modify the properties to apply the prescribed above.

what is in IIS web extensions?

as for /PSDSS, go to the folder up in the heirarchy (possibly the root and assign fullcontrol)

regarding the Excel object. is ASP.NET installed on that server?

i'm not using ASP.NET, in fact i've never installed it, and it was working before my PC crashed...u wrekon ASP.NET might help???if so guide me as to whrer to find it and how to install it please?

the /PSDSS folder lies in wwwroot in Inetpub on my localdirve....the folders themselves are read only...and i did try unticking the read only box...but i think folders might be defaulted to read only...the files inside PSDSS arent read only though....what am i doing wrong?

with the IIS in administrative tools....i can access properties of the files in /PSDSS....but they're already assigfned full control...and i still gettin the same error....

Before apply ASP.NET...let's just focus on the following

"the /PSDSS folder lies in wwwroot in Inetpub on my localdirve....the folders themselves are read only...and i did try unticking the read only box...but i think folders might be defaulted to read only...the files inside PSDSS arent read only though....what am i doing wrong?"

make the wwwroot folder writable.

Review this link..
do you have similar settings?  if not, post what you DON'T have before you apply anything.

oki with reference to each screen shot you have

1. No web Service Extension Window (Using Win XP Pro...thought that was in Win 2003 Server?...how do i access it here?...path to find it please?)

2. PSDSS properties set exactly like your superman properties....
EXCEPT: Application pool...that's set to medium by default...only have high, medium, low settings in mine.

3. Anonymous access allowed, Integrated Windows Authentication Allowed.

4. Don't have serveral users on PC, just one...me...the administrator
...dunno how to access that window either....how do i access that also?

5. Same as above in que 4.

a few more...

right click on your web site and choose properties..

General tab, home directory, documents
-----------------------------
i'm thinking that we should make a copy to ANOTHER folder off the root, just for testing..

such as

D:\testweb

and giving it full control (so that you can write)
