after reading about the new dlt v4 160/320 drives from quantum which led me to beleive that the new drive was compatable with the older tapes we currently use in our VS160 drive it looked like a no brainer.. drive was cheap and could use the old cartridges and have twice the capacity.
after speaking with quantum tech support (we have a problem here), they tell me if it is a new VS160 tape it will work fine.. and if it was previously written to by a vs160 drive, we can read it.. However once it's formatted by the vs160 the dlt-v4 won't write to it (or format it)..
Now they tell me that we can degausse the old tapes and then we can write to them.. After a little research I find these to be expensive
$1000 or more (could buy new tapes for that amt..).. or we could send them out to a service to have them degaussed (can't find one)..
Just wondering if anyone has run into this and come up with a reasonable solution?
Thanks in advance for any help..
