LAN connection is missing

I recently upgraded my computer from windows xp home to windows xp professional. Now when i try to connece to my DSL provider, it says i cannot and i figured out why and its because i dont have a local area connection. When i go into device manager, the ethernet port has a yellow questino mark. Iv been trying to find out what driver to use but i cant seem to find anything. i wasdont understand how my lan just disappeared, what should i do?

you need to reinstall the driver.
what model of PC is it?

you have to reinstall the network card driver as ZH suggests

it is possible it just needs to be re-directed to the currently installed driver.
right click on the ethernet in device manager and go to properties.  go to the driver tab.  select update driver and see if it locates it.
if not, you will probably have to reinstall the driver

If you can provide the make of the computer HP ????? you could get the drivers off the HP site.  Also with DSL you have to load the CD that they provided you with for the modem or router that they sent you.

I wouldnt recommend the cd even if you didnt have problems. those cd's usually cause more probs than they are worth. (unless your PPPOE which I would only install the client IF needed)  Download everest at

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Everest will tell you what model lan adapter you have or what is compatible, and then you can find the driver for it online.

I would also recommend installing a new nic (if you can or someone you know can) its cheap... and you get a driver. (talkin couple bucks here( 1 gal of gas lol)

i agree with Craig about the dsl CD ... it causes more problems than it's worth...and it wouldnt cause your NIC to show yellow in the device manager.

if you post the hp model we can help you locate the drivers.
