"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Can you describe the problem more in detail?  Are you typing on a keyboard, but nothing is showing on the screen, or is the password not being accepted?  If it isn't being accepted, make sure numlock is off.  The password itself may be wrong, and would require a reset.

Nothing is typing at all the curser blinks.

If a different keyboard doesn't do anything different, try a USB keyboard.  Your PS/2 port may be broken.

Just a note. Some computers now only come with USB ports (no ps/2 mouse or keyboard).  I had a client send me a computer without his wireless usb keyboard and mouse.  I could not install a standard usb keyboard and mouse because when windows started it detected the new hardware and required a click on the NEXT button in the "found new hardware" wizard.  Of course, I could neither type nor use the mouse because neither had been installed yet!  I had to go and pick up the person's own keyboard and mouse.

I would also be curios to know if your keyboard works in the BIOS.

you can test your hardware by booting from the knoppix cd - if all works there , the hard is Ok
