Method 'Item' fo object 'Forms' Failed

I did a search and replace to change the name of a control.

I now get the message

Error -2146500594
SS Open Form Error "The name of the form"  and
Method 'Item' of object 'Forms' failed.

I can open the form in Design view, but I can't find anything that was misnamed.

What can cause this error and how do I find it?

Little chance, but you might try this: change the Record Source, even just adding a dummy space. This will force the form to recreate it's internal list of objects. For example, if you have a *field* called Foo and a *control* called Foo, renaming the control drops also the field from the list. After resetting the record source, you will have both Form.Foo and Form.cboFoo for example.

Search and replace is a tricky thing. If you did that while the form was open, for example, you might have desynchronized VB's compilation state flags.

For serious form corruptions, the  best is to remove it entirely:

* In the immediate pane:
   SaveAsText acForm, "frmBroken", "C:\frmBroken.txt"
* Delete the form
* Repair and compace
* Recompile project
* Back to the immediate pane:
   LoadFromText acForm, "frmBroken", "C:\frmBroken.txt"
* Recompile project

See if that helps.

You're wonderful.  I backup often, but had about 8 hours very intense querry work, so I didn't want to go back to the old backup, nor did I want to delete the form and reload from backup as I was afraid I wouldn't remember all the changes to it either.

It'll take awhile to put the form back, as I changed or commented many things looking for the porblem, but I can fix all that now that the form works.

Thanks again,
