Can't see new hard drive in My Computer

Running Win XP Home Editon. Just replaced an 8.4 GB hard drive with a 80 GB hard drive. The primary HD is also 80 GB. Starting up the new HD is recognized by the BIOS, it is also seen in Device Manager. But it's not in the My Computer window. I know I have to format it but I can't find it. I'm going to stay up late until I get this fixed. I can also be reached online at Yahoo Messenger (with voice) at joni0552. Please help. (And hurry!)

Right-click on My Computer; select Manage;  click on Disk Manager ==> now find the drive in the display at the right; point to it; right-click, and "Initialize"  (this may pop up by itself).   After you've initialized it you can partition it; format it; and assign a drive letter (or letters) to it :-)

... it's actually "Disk Management" (not "Manager") that you click on.

I right-clicked on the new drive (D) and selected initialize. Ithink it is formatting NTSF right now. Yes, I see percentage progress. I will wait until tomorrow to close this out.

GO TO BED!

Thanks!
