Internet Explorer 6 does not show websites, Windows Explorer does

Hi there,

I have a "funny" thing here:
On a Win2k system the MSIE 6 SP1 does not show any websites which I type in to the address field. When I do the same with the Windows Explorer it shows the websites. Netscape 7.0 which is also installed on the system works properly.

I already removed the MSIE via IERadicator2001a and reinstalled it with the official installer provided by Microsoft but the problem did not disappear. I checked the FolderOptions in the ControlPanel and resetted the settings for the .HTM and .HTML file types ... problem remains actual.

When I wanted to change the default browser of the system to Netscape Communicator via its Preferences window it freezed. Then I tried to configure this via "Set Program Access and Defaults" and it did not finish. When trying a reboot I had to kill the task.

What can you recommend?

This is most probably because of a recent Windows Update.
