I am setting up a Point to Point, I have the T/1 interfaces up and running but have a few questions about encapsulation and the best way to go about the links. I am new to the world of routers, so I am looking for just a basic setup. Would bridging do what I need?

Hi Imurray,

I'm not farmiliar with your Netvanta product but I would go with a static routed solution(A routing protocol isn't really required for just two sites, It'll just add more data overhead).. The industry norm would be to use PPP encapsulation accross your circuit. If your new to routing static routes will give you valuable knowledge/experience of how routing actually works... Try and avoid a bridged solution in case you wish to go with VOIP in the future (You can't implement QoS over a bridged infrastructure). You'll also get more out of the bandwidth you have if you route. Broadcasts don't get passed over a routed interface... If you are planning on using the IP subnets in your diagram you will definatly need to route the traffic. As they are on two diffrent networks.

You should also make sure all your software is routable before implementing a routed network.

Hope this helps :)
