Can I install an Exchange server in a child domain on the same level as the one with the incoming connector retaining the addressing @domain.co.uk
This is a curious one as I have an operational child domain with Exchange 2003 running and mail coming in and out fine. The addresses are @domain.co.uk on a 2003 server. My question is this, I have been given the task of installing a second child domain of the same forest with it's own Exchange server in but retaining the same @domain.co.uk. The router is on the child1.domain.org and i need to get the mail to recipients on my child2.domain.org. Can I install the new exchange server (after domain prepping the new child2 domain) and set up a second admin group on the working server with this new one in ?? I am at a loss how this routing will take place being unfamiliar with their topology. Can this be done with RGC's and if so how is best to achive this. Any help would be really greatly appreciated, Many thanks

So you want 2 exchange servers running the same mail domain?
ASKER
Yes that's the scenario within their own respective windows domains. Hope this makes sense.

Main SMTP relay
child1.domain.org
you may have to create contacts of the child2 users on child1.domin.org.
by this child1 will know where to send the e-mails bound to child2 users.
child2.domiain.org
smart host [child1.domain.org]
recipient policy
smtp: @domain.co.uk

OK so I have both server inside first administrative group Directory access seems OK. Mail is getting out from child2.doman.org but not coming back in ??? Don't fully undertsand the part about the smtp relay ?? The address lists are updating etc and can open shared calenders, Recipient Update service configured for new child2domain to its own DC but not getting replies from the new users on the new domain as it were.
Sorry to be a nuisance but any help would be really gratefully appreciated and points awarded as soon as it works,
Thanks

Sorted it now thanks for all the tips, made the smpt connector for both servers to relay to each other an external mail is coming in now I have finally got the router people to pull their fingers out. The smart host that was in the child1 smtp VS has been removed so the servers can route mail between themselves and all is good.
Thanks again
