SNMP error : snmpwalk no securityName specified

hi,

I'm trying to use the snmpwalk command on my redhat linux 9.0 machine. After starting the snmpd service, I tried to run the following command:

# snmpwalk 192.168.1.78 public system

(the ip address specified above is my local machine ip address).

I'm getting the following error message :

snmpwalk: no securityName specified.

Do I need to do any cofiguration in the snmpd.conf file? Please advise me what should I edit in that file.

Thanks...

I have surfed a little and found that is the new syntax

give a try to this syntax:
snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.1.78 system

also: RH9 is old. it's kind of difficult to maintain if you do not want to break rpm.
I would recommend to upgrade to RHAS 4.x or the free variant Centos 4.x (Fedora is more for testing than for servers nowadays)
