Coldfusion MX7 Developer Edition - database connection problem

I am using Dreamweaver on windows XP along with coldfusionMX7.  My application has tested correctly on the dev. server in the past, but now I am unable to connect to my access database from dreamweaver.

I deleted and tried to restore the datasource in cf - but ran into the following problem.
On choosing the Microsoft access driver (which I diin the past) , cf gives me the following error

"The ColdFusion MX 7 ODBC Server service is not running or has not been installed. You may also use the "MS Access with Unicode" driver to connect to MS Access datasources"

If I use the MS Access with Unicode driver, I am able to connect the database ok and the database shows in dreamweaver, but the record set does not retrive any data.

Coldfusion MX application server shows up in windows services, but there is no sign of any odbc services. I seem to recall that odbc servics are an option when you install coldfusion - but given that this did work in the past, Im not sure this is my problem.

Two solutions seem possible to me

- install ODBC server services - but I dont know how to do that without de and re install of coldfusion

- or just use the unicode driver and sort out the problem of no data being retrived by my record set.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the services MMC on the server to see if the CFMX ODBC service is running.  If it's not, start it.  If it isn't, you'll need to install the ODBC services.  That's as simple as reinstalling CF (without an uninstall) and making sure the ODBC services are set to install.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the input.

At the end of the day I had to do a complete reinstall of cf7 - not possible to reinstall on top of original install - required deinstall and then reinstall.

btw, found that one needs to be careful about reinstalling - I pointed it to the folder I used for the initial reinstall - which  contained 3 applications - no problem I was lead to understand by the user friendly wizard - no files will be deleted. Guess what, they were deleted during the reinstall ahhhhh

Now I know why I paid for acronis backup ...... Phew!!! close call.
