New WD Hard Drive - Can't See It As A New Drive in Explore or My Computer

I just purchased a new Westerd Digital 250 GB Hard Drive for my Dell Dimension 8300. I already have an 80 GB HD which I am happy to keep as the master.  I set the new Hard Drive as the slave, and it does show up in the Device Manager.

However, when I look for the drive in "My Computer" or "Explore," I cannot find a new Drive letter assigned to the new Hard Drive.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or how I can find/get a new drive letter set for the new Hard Drive?

    Accepted Solution

    Hi tcraw1010,

Please go to Start => Run => diskmgmt.msc
There your new drive should show up, now, just right-click it and create a partition. Afterwards, format it.

After you've done this, you should be able to access the drive through My computer or Explorer like you used to.
