ORA-00942 during export

Posted on 2006-05-01
Last Modified: 2013-12-11
I am doing the export using parfile.following is the content of parfile.

# owner=gk0cp1

When I run the script I get the error
About to export specified tables via Direct Path ...

EXP-00056: ORACLE error 942 encountered

ORA-00942: table or view does not exist

EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully

But when I change the parameter direct=y to direct=n then  it works.
Can someone tell me why this is happeneing.

What I need to do to make sure that script works with direct=y

Thanks in advance.

    Dear dgupta70

You must be exporting from a machine having different client version. Either export it from server or install same version of client on that machine as server.

Just write sqlplus on bash prompt or command prompt.
It will give you the verion of oracle installed on server and run same command on server

Below is the version of oracle
    c:\ sqlplus

    SQL*Plus: Release - Production on Tue May 2 10:41:18 2006

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.

    Enter user-name:

    Solaris or unix

    # sqlplus

    SQL*Plus: Release - Production on Tue May 2 10:41:18 2006

Copyright (c) 1982, 2002, Oracle Corporation.  All rights reserved.

    Assisted Solution

Sometimes this happens because the DBA has upgraded the Orcle software using Patch
but have not upgraded the Oracle dictionary using the script catpatch.sql 9or catupgr.sql)

    Assisted Solution

In many cases , if the direct  path export fails and conventional path works it could be due to an Oracle bug.
Please check the alert.log to see if there is something unusual (an ORA_00600 or ORA-07445) reported at the time of export failure.
Also what is the version of database and exp utility?
