I use pop server the public IP. the port 110 is fowarded do my exchange server 2003

the problem is that I try every possible combination and I can not log in to get the email at my outlook express

I verified the pass over and over and it is correct. Why I cant logging to get the email?

The administrator account can loggin and get the email from outlook express. is there any policy or security that deny users to loggin at pop3 protocol?

    Hi zaldivar05,

1.Check if you are indeed using the correct IP assigned to your MX record at - use the DNS Report option and refer the MX record for your domain.

    2. You need to set authentication to on in OE. Its at OE > Tools > Accounts > Mail Tab > Account Properties > Servers Tab > Incoming email server options : Log In using secure password authentication. Tick the Outgoing email server option as well.

    3. In the above Servers Tab - how had you put the mail server IP? or do you use the domain name?

    4. In the above Servers Tab - how had you put the email account? just the name or the full email address?

Try a simple test. At command prompt type - ping <mail server ip>. You should get replies.

If you still cant connect what is the OE error that you get?

it is not a problem of dns. because we use the IP not the name.

As I said If I use the administrator account, I can get the email without problems, but If I try any other account I cant.

With the administrator account I can download the email without ticking the log in using secure password authentication at OE, but I tried that anyway to see if that works and it does not. It keeps prompting for username and password.

The error I get it this:

: '-ERR Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.', Puerto: 110, Seguridad (SSL): No, Error de servidor: 0x800CCC90, Número de error: 0x800CCC92

    Accepted Solution

    No, Error de servidor: 0x800CCC90

    C:\>err 0x800CCC90
    # for hex 0x800ccc90 / decimal -2146644848 :
      IXP_E_POP3_RESPONSE_ERROR                                     imnxport.h
    # 1 matches found for "0x800CCC90"

    Número de error: 0x800CCC92
    C:\>err 0x800CCC92
    # for hex 0x800ccc92 / decimal -2146644846 :
      IXP_E_POP3_INVALID_PASSWORD                                   imnxport.h
    # 1 matches found for "0x800CCC92"

The errors that you get keep pointing to there being a password error. I used the MS ERR program to id the errors above.

Check whether the exchange Features tab settings are identical between the Admin and the user. Reset the user password. The way that you enter the admin username and password should be used when trying the users ID on the OE settings as well.

If this fails, create a test account and see if that account can do the downloading through pop3.

I were tag by tab looking for everything that could be different between administrador and the other user.

When I went to exchange general options, I found the alias was different that the logging name. I change the alias and put the logging name and now its working. I really dont know why but I cant download using the user or the alias if they are different, but it is working now when both are the same.
